In September, the Beavers harvested their two community garden plots. We had planted the gardens together in the spring, and the Beavers and their families all helped to water and take care of them over the summer.

With this project, the Beavers learned a bit about where our food comes from, and everyone was able to take home some carrots, beets, and potatoes. We were hoping to also donate some fresh produce to the food bank, but unfortunately the gardens suffered some vandalism and our harvest was not quite as good as we were hoping.

As a companion project, we also built solitary bee hotels. These provided homes for pollinator bees. We discussed the role of bees in helping the garden grow and everyone learned a bit about what we can do to help the bees.
